My Story
I’m Cristina Ambrosio, a location-independent travel writer passionate about sharing my adventures, personal experiences and tips from the places I visit around the world. I am a lover of food, nature, history, sunsets and yes, purple flowers. Globetrotting has taught me many things and I’m always eager to learn more and more.
Travel-passion background
Since starting high school I became interested in learning foreign languages as I envisioned myself traveling the world. So big was my passion for foreign languages, that I went beyond the basic graduation requirements and ended up taking French all four years of high school. Furthermore, my passion for traveling and learning about other cultures is reflected in my undergrad major—International Business.
After earning my bachelor’s degree I enrolled at a city college to continue learning foreign languages. I spent one year learning Italian followed by one year of German. Learning languages is like second nature to me; they’re also fun, motivating and interesting. I once set myself a goal of speaking six languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Arabic and Japanese. Today I speak fluent English and Spanish, passable French and Italian. I have yet a long way of reaching my goal, and hope I can accomplish it some day.
When I started traveling and where I’ve been
I started my travel adventures back in December 2005 when I visited one of my best friends in Hawaii—I had an unbelievable time. From that point on I made an effort to save money for my travels as well as setting a goal of traveling at least once per year.
My travels have taken me to astonishing places where I’ve met wonderful people and have been able to take part in extraordinary adventures like: riding a hot air balloon over the rolling hills of the Temecula Valley in California; zip lining through a luscious cloud forest in Mindo, Ecuador; swimming and hiking across a pitch black marble cavern with screeching guácharos (oilbirds) at the Reserva Natural Río Claro in Colombia; kayaking in the pristine and turquoise waters of the Pacific in Huatulco, Mexico; wandering through 13th century castle ruins situated on the Alpine foothills in Bellinzona, Switzerland; walking across the Capilano Suspension Bridge 70 meters above the river in Vancouver, Canada and many other unforgettable experiences.
Where I am now
In March 2017, I quit my full-time marketing job, (and got rid of my belongings), to travel throughout Europe with my husband for about one year. No doubt it has been one of the best decisions that I’ve made in my life. I’m learning and discovering a myriad of interesting things and places throughout this journey.
My goal is to inspire people through my writing and photos with my personal experiences on my traveling adventures and to provide useful insights that could assist you in your next trip.
